Summer Fireworks Displays
Many fireworks displays are held in here Hokkaido, adding a joyous atmosphere to Hokkaido's summer!

One of the majoy fireworks displays in Hokkaido is Lake Toya fireworks ( 28Apr untill end of Oct.2010 8:45pm-9:15pm)
You can enjoy their fantastic fireworks every nights for about 20minutes except the day with poor weather condition.
The fireworks may be seen from the lakeview guest rooms in some hotels beside the Lake Toya.

The 57th Sapporo Summer Festival !!
The 57th Sapporo summer festival is going to be held from 21st July to 20th August.
This is an annual big festival in Sapporo, including Sapporo Odori Beer garden,Hokkai Bon dancing and Sapporo Bazzar, which are the three major events.

Cherry-blossom front has come - Hokkaido
The cherry blossoms finally started north in Hokkaido because of the hot trend in the late holiday season.
According to the Sapporo District Meteorological Observatory,
the flowering cherry trees were starting Matsumae town on April 4, Hakodate on 5th, and 6th in the town of Esashi.
Cherry were blooming in Sapporo Hokkaido Shrine on 6th. |

Somei-Yoshino/Yoshino Cherry
Somei-Yoshino is the most famous cherry which will bloom in early May in Hokkaido.
The earliest blooming season in Hokkaido starts from Southern Hokkaido.
Matsumae Park in Matsumae Town and Goryokaku Park are well known as Sakura, Cherry bloosom.
In Sapporo City, during the flowering season in May, Maruyama Park is popular for beautiful sakura.

Matsuo Jingisukan
Jingisukan is one of the local popular menu in Hokkaido, barbecue of mutton or lamb.
There are 2 styles for eating, one is eating the meat which is already soaked in the special sauce,
the other is choosing the raw meat.
Matuo Jingisukan is famous as the pioneer in the former style.

New Chitose Airport International Terminal Building
On 26th March 2010, New Chitose Airport opened the international terminal building.
It was built with a image of the forest of Hokkaido so that
the wood made in Hokkaido used for the building and the elevator designed with the Ainu art.

The season for Spring Sea Urchin
This is the best season for spring sea urchin which we can eat in Hidaka.
The sea urchin love seaweed.
Spring sea urchin in Hidaka eat seaweed growing up with nutrient flows into the Pacific from the Hidaka Mountains.
Thus, the sea urchins will be strongly fragrant and sweet.

Smelt Fishing on Lake Shinotsu
We went fishing for pond smelt the other day.
Usually, the smelt fishing can be enjoyed on the frozen lake.
However, at "Lake Shinotsu" , people can rent a vinyl house for fishing.
The house is warm and comfortable with the stove.
Nearby spa facilities would cook smelt you caught !

The 61st Sapporo Snow Festival Just Start!
The 61th Sapporo Snow Festival is to be held from February 5th to 11th, 2010
Sapporos winter has a major event with pure white snow statues,
transparent ice sculptures and lots of other entertainment.
Residents handmade snow statues and huge elaborate snow sculptures line
the street one after another for 1.5km; Odori Park becomes a breathtaking snow world.

Akan Lake Ice Festival
Lake Akan is laid in Akan National Park in the eastern Hokkaido.
This festival has been held from 23rd Jan to 22nd Mar 2010.
People can enjoy Smelt Fishing (fishing set 1500yen) or Snow Mobile (2000meters 1500yen) during day time.
Firework desplays will be raunched on the ice everyday at 20:10.

Hyobaku Festiveal on Lake Shikotsu
Ice sculptures made from the water of lake Shikotsu will be lit up.
Shine the light of the sun, give off a clear ice color called "Blue Shikotsuko" .
During the festival, fireworks display and some attractions will be offered.

The Ice Drift have been observed in the Sea of Okhotsk
Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force has announced that they have observed the Ice Drift expanded through the Sea of Okhotsk.
They said that the ice has been observed 160 kiro meters far from Monbetsu city in the eastern Hokkaido.
Being observed with the naked eye from the land will be expected until the end of January.
The area of the drift ice throughout the Sea of Okhotsk is expected to be less than usual. |

"Ice Terrace" will also open on the Mt.Moiwa
A limited in winter "Ice Terrace" will also open this year on the Mt.Moiwa ropeway in Sapporo.
A fantastic observation place which is all made of the ice will be built up, illuminated color LED light.
The View from the place deffers from the one of summit of the observatory.

Otaru Long X'mas 2009
Otaru Long X'mas 2009 will be held from 11th Nov 2009 to 25th Dec 2009.
The white X'mas tree, which is 4 meters high with message written by people, will set up at Otaru Canal Plaza.
Also set up at the top of Mt.Tengu where is famous as a sight with great night view.
Many X'mas program will be offered at all over Otaru.

Sapporo meteorological observatory announced it snowed on 1st November for the first time this year.
It is 3 days earlier than last year.

Sapporo Factory Jumbo Christmas Tree
Sapporo Factory Shopping Mall has built on the birthplace of Sapporo Beer. The building has taken over the old red bricks.
A big Cristmas tree of 15 meters high will be set up in an atrium and light up in the evening.

Hokkai Bon Odori
Hokkai Bon Odori, the traditional dance event which is belonging to Sapporo Summer Festival, will take place for a week from 14th to 20th August.
In the final day the fancy dress competitions will be held.
This event was established by the local broadcast company in 1953.
Hokkai Bon Odori with Hokkai Bon Uta and Hokkai Yosare Bushi is a very sophisticated and accomplished the highest prize in Hokkaido with professional of dancers and singers.

Feel the refreshing wind on the Norokko!!
There is the recommendation train in only summer.
The Furano-Biei Norokko Train runs betweeen Biei station and Furano staition(Norokko means going slowly.).
It has a leisurely wide-window, so we can enjoy every bit of the Northern Hokkaido landscape and the refreshing wind.
The Lavender Farm Station open seasonally, you can walk from the staition to the Farm Tomita which is the birthplace of the now nationwide image of Furano as the land of lovely lavender.

July is the best season for picking cherries off.

From tomorrow 27th June, Hanafesta 2009 Sapporo coloring Odori Park with various flowers, is held tomorrow!
The big flower carpet, brought up and designed by the local high school students, is worth seeing.

Oni Hanabi (Demons' Fireworks) at Noboribetsu has been started.
Demons'fireworks are launched in a wish for hapiness and to rid people of bad luck at Jigokudani, from where the hot spring water flows into hotels.
"Hot water demons", the inhabitants of jigokudani according to the local legend,
launch it as powerful as volcanic eruptions, into the night sky every weekend.
You can enjoy the amusing dance and the epic portable fireworks.
