Old-established hot springs village discovered in the Kanei era
When a fisherman from Tsugaru visited this area to gather kelp in 1632, he saw a deer healing an injury in a hot spring. This was the origin of this hot springs village and the story has been embraced by one of the oldest inns in this area ‘Shika no Yu’ (deer’s hot springs). There are six hot spring inns and two public baths around the Port of Shikabe. ‘Shikabe Geyser Park’ is another great attraction in the Onsen district.
