Somei-Yoshino trees bloom before the leaves grow and are well worth seeing. Hokkaido’s earliest blooming season starts first in Southern Hokkaido. Matsumae Park in Matsumae Town, Goryokaku Park and Hakodate Park in Hakodate City, and Aobagaoka Park and Oniushi Park in Mori Town are all famous for Somei-Yoshino. In Sapporo City during the flowering season in May, Maruyama Park is popular for beautiful sakura, and is crowded with cherry-blossom viewers sitting around Jingisukan BBQs, soaking in the delightful scenery and atmosphere.
