Giant illuminated Christmas Tree in front of the Kanemori Warehouse
A giant fir tree presented from Halifax City in Canada, Hakodate’s sister city, is transformed into a dazzling illuminated Christmas tree which throws colourful and bright lights into the sky above the sea near the Kanemori Warehouse area, which is only a 10 minute walk from the Hakodate Station. The lighting ceremony, performed by a nominee, is held daily from 1st Dec. to 25th Dec. Both the switching on of the tree at 6pm and the fireworks are worth watching, both sights to be marveled. The tree is illuminated from 4pm to 5.45pm and then again from 6pm to 2am. On a Friday and a Saturday the tree stays illuminated until 7am, and also from the 22nd Dec. to 24th of Dec. the tree stays illuminated all night and is switched off at 7am. The last day the tree can be viewed is the 25th Dec. and on Christmas day the tree is turned off at 8pm. Shuttle Buses run every day during this event to and from the Yunokawa Onsen area.
