Nationally designated important cultural property in a roadside station
The Pacific herring was prolific in these Sea of Japan waters until around 1955. This roadside station is situated inside an historical building known as “Kyu Hanadake Banya” (former Hanada Family Banya) which communicates the magnificence of the fishermen during those times. The roadside station itself is also made of the same old wooden construction that the original herring Banya was made from. As well as learning about the history of this area, you can also delight at the fresh flavours of modern day Obira in the restaurant. The first floor has a larger open space that caters for large groups of customers or dining events.
