Ropeway and lift rides from the onsen spa town in Sounkyo will take you to Mt. Kurodake in the Daisetsuzan Mountains. The lift will take you up to the 7th station, which is 1,984 meters above sea level, so you can enjoy the magnificent scenery of the mountain without going serious mountain-climbing. You can also make a 30-minute round trip to a 1,300-meter high station, where you can enjoy a panoramic view of the mountain. The early ride (which starts at 6 a.m.) is available from June to mid-October so you can enjoy a romantic view of the morning mist.
