Roadside Station Town Where the Bell Chimes Chipubetsu
Hear the reverberating sounds of Hokkaido’s largest swing bell chime
This roadside station is located approximately 15km outside Fukagawa city on Route 233 in the Rumoi direction. Inside the premises you can find the foundations of the Centenary Commemorative Tower, the top of which houses the largest swing bell in Hokkaido that chimes 4 times daily. The tower acts as a useful landmark for the roadside station. The “bell of happiness” was established inside the observation tower in July 2006, and is used as a place for people to make wishes or swear oaths. Local specialties are sold in the local produce display are inside the center house, and you can buy delicious, freshly grown local vegetables at very cheap prices in the vegetable house inside the roadside station.
