Japan's largest gathering place for the white-fronted goose
This is one of the oxbow lakes of the Ishikari River running down Ishikari-Hirano. This approximately 30 hectare shallow oxbow lake is known as a natural national monument, and as the largest gathering place for white-fronted geese. In the spring and autumn of every year more than 60,000 geese fly here. This area is registered as the 2nd domestic wetlands under the Ramsar Convention on wetlands, and is preserved by the State.
