Centre of commercial activity in Otaru since the 1950’s
This market is located near JR Otaru Station, and the three buildings stand side by side running from the seaside toward the mountains. In the 1950’s this market was the busy main supplier for the local merchants, and the construction of the concrete and steel buildings, which have stores on the ground floor and residences on the upper floors, drew a great deal of attention. The tenants of Building No. 1 are mainly grocery stores but there are also some other tenants like snack stands and pubs nowadays. In February 2006 a store specializing in chocolate opened in Building No.3.
