Illusional natural beauty covered with green velvet
The water from the nearby mountains encroached on the lava from Mt Tarumae’s eruption and created this impressive gorge. Over 30 kinds of mosses including the sword moss and chochin-goke thickly cover the surface. The green velvet like appearance creates an extraordinary scene. It is approximately 20 minutes walk to the observation platform at the entrance of the gorge from the car park. At present, because of the risk of landslides, there is no permitted entry until further notice.
