Lilac

Tree of Sapporo, chosen by the Sapporo citizens

In Sapporo, this tree is called Lilac and is also known by other names like Murasakihashidoi, Lila and Hanahashidoi. In 1960 the citizens of Sapporo voted Lilac as the tree of Sapporo, since when they proudly hold the annual ‘Sapporo Lilac Festival’. The flower has a tubular corolla with four petals. The flowering season for the lilac is in May.
