Walking on this 1.3-kilometer boardwalk, you can get really close to the west craters of Mt. Usu, created by the eruption in March 2000. The walk shows you the results of the enormous power of the eruption, including a new mountain created as a result of movements of the Earth's crust, a disrupted asphalt road, and destroyed buildings and telephone poles. Steam continues to seep out of the side of the boardwalk and the craters still belch smoke. The walk takes about an hour, and gives you a real sense of nature’s energy.
