Enjoy the “flavours” and “teachings” of the oceans at the same time!
Increase your knowledge of the Sea of Japan by stopping by the roadside station that houses a library!
Kaminokuni Monju is located along the Route 228 section of the forked section of the Saurin Line. This roadside station was built on the Genkan beachside at the foot of Iouzan, which contains the relics of Katsuyama Castle, built by Nobuhiro Takeda who was the founder of the Matsumae clan. Look downwards towards the ocean to see the Monji rocks that were the inspiration for the naming of the roadside station. The ground floor of the roadside station contains the “Ocean Library” which contains a wealth of information about the Sea of Japan, and you are also free to use the computers to research more. Once you’ve had your fill of information, take a window-side seat in the first floor restaurant for some delicious food and a beautiful panoramic view of the Sea of Japan.
