The sacred Mt. Yakushi, a place to see the moss phlox in full bloom
Sacred Mt. Yakushi, ancient battle site of the Hakodate war. Yakushi temple on the peak of the mountain enshrines the Yakushi spirits, and an observation platform looks over the Tsugaru Straits and the town of Kikonai. During Golden Week, the Moss Phlox covering the mountainside is truly a sight to see. The Winter Purification Festival is held here, where a god is carried in a portable shrine from Samegawa shrine up Mt. Yakushi.
