Loving the white snow and clear air! Animals that comes alive in winter

Asahiyama zoo starts its winter season from 3rd November onwards. Get to observe a different set of behavior from the animals during the winter season. Like the lazing polar bears during the summer season, many animals come alive in the winter. For example, the spotted seals, Hokkaido bears, and the Siberian Tigers playing in the snow. In addition, animals that are hardy against the cold, like the red pandas, the arctic foxes with their beautiful white fur, white owls and cranes standing in stark contrast in the white landscape are definitely not to be missed. Do not forget to include a visit to the Asahiyama zoo within your itinerary.



In operation even during the winter season! Check out the ‘Mogumogu time’ schedule beforehand.

Of course, as part of the activity display, ‘Mogumogu time’ (animal feeding time) is also in operation during the winter season. Check out the feeding schedule of the polar bears enclosure, seals enclosure and the penguin aquarium so that you won’t miss out anything. However, as the orangutans are weak against the cold, you can only observe them through a window in a heated room. That said, you can get to see them from a nearer distance. Don’t forget to check out the schedule before leaving for the zoo as there are plans to include a ‘mogumogu time’ for the falcons and eagles too. Different in summer, now is the time to check out the winter aspect of the animals.

The operation of ‘mogumogu time’ for different animals will be decided in the morning, before opening.
The schedule will be posted on various entrances and tourist information center in the zoo.

The highlight of Asahiyama zoo in winter! Penguin walk within the zoo

Rockhopper Penguin, Gentoo Penguin, Humboldt Penguin, and King Penguin, a total of 4 species of penguins live in this zoo. The penguins swimming in the underwater tunnel during winter are more lively than usual. Do check out their speed and grace. In addition, the antics of the penguins in the snowy outdoor enclosure are also a must-see! You will be able to observe the behavior of penguins in nature. The one thing that you absolutely must not miss is the ‘Penguin walk’. Be enchanted by the penguins waddling in a line within the snow covered zoo just right in front of you. This is truly the highlight of the zoo during the winter season. Regular visitors will agree that this very sight can only be experienced in a zoo in Hokkaido. Be sure to encounter the warmth of the animals and cold of Asahikawa this winter.
